Fourth of July Grill Fire Prevention

6/27/2017 (Permalink)

Have a wonderful and safe 4th of July from your friends and family at SERVPRO of Toms River.

The 4th of July is almost here and that means that a lot of us will be getting ready to head outdoors for the warmer weather to enjoy barbecues. These are delightful ways to spend the holiday but fire safety should be a top priority. Patio torches, fire pits, grills, candles, campfires, fireworks and sparklers can easily start a fire that could result in injury or fire damage.

According to the U.S. Fire Administration, about 5,700 grill fires take place on residential property every year, causing an annual average of $37 million in damage. The National Fire Protection Association offers these general grilling tips:

  • Propane and charcoal BBQ grills should only be used outdoors.
  • The grill should be placed well away from the home, deck railings and out from under eaves and overhanging branches.
  • Keep children and pets away from the grill area.
  • Keep your grill clean by removing grease or fat buildup from the grills and in trays below the grill.
  • Never leave your grill unattended.
