Water Damage Repair and Restoration

Could Cold Weather Be Coming to Ocean County and Cause Your Pipes to Freeze?

Winter weather brings colder temperatures that can lead to the risk of frozen or burst pipes. Normally pipes will freeze when the temperature around them hit 32°F or lower. When pipes are exposed to the cold, the water inside, either standing or slow moving, freezes and expands. As the water freezes it becomes ice and expands the pipe just slightly enough to produce a crack. Once the temperature warms above 32°F, the ice begins to melt. Over time this process repeats, causing the cracks to grow large enough to become a leak or even a burst. Remember, just because the temperature hits freezing does not mean your pipes will freeze because a lot of pipes are inside the structure with insulation to protect them from the elements.

SERVPRO of Toms River handles the cleanup of water damage from frozen and burst pipes. Please read here for more information on water damage from pipes or call us at 732-349-9898 for our 24 Hour Emergency Service
